dragging my belly home...
Oof. Just got back to my parents' farm after attending an eight course truffle degustation dinner in honour of my Dad's Birthday. Dad and I approached the degustation dinner as a challenge which our German heritage should have equipped us for well, and indeed I believe my ability to store large amounts of food in my stomach came in handy, but I was struggling by the end.
I can also now say that I have tried truffles. They have an interesting taste, but I'm not convinced that they are worth the, like, billions of dollars per kilo that they apparently cost. Still, it was a good night... despite the social climber my poor mother had to sit next to at our table. The best dish was actually the truffle butter with bread which was a side and not part of the main event, but it was in something so simple that the truffle taste could really come through. Second best was the dessert - called a chocolate nemesis. I think perhaps it was more of a chocolate best friend, but we'll see how my hips feel about it in the morning!
It has been lovely spending time with my parents the last few days. I went on a great walk with the puppy this afternoon, and came across a bunch of roos and some HUGE emu tracks. You can tell no one hunts emus around here - I've been seeing a few really big ones, which if we were up north would have been hunted down by one of my clients a while ago!
I'm now watching rage while tooling around on the internet, with the puppy asleep on the couch next to me. She's clearly having a good dream right now - she's making the noises she normally makes when she gets to run with abandon through big, grassy paddocks.
Sometimes, life is pretty damn good.
