I have new hair! Went to the hairdresser yesterday to see if she could correct the horror of a cut I had about a month ago. She had to take a whole three inches off to do it, but she managed it! For the first time in a long time, I'm actually happy with the cut I got. It is much shorter than I would like - as in still long, but not down past my boobs long - but the cut itself is great and will grow out well. Score!

Why do you love your body?

I can put on lip gloss using my cleavage. It isn't a regularly used skill, but still. Handy if I'm ever captured with my hands tied and need to look my best.

My financial situation is a bit dire at the moment - by which I mean not actually dire, but more I'm supposed to be saving, and I'm not - but regardless I took myself off to the record store this afternoon and picked up Gossip's "Music for Men". Like pretty much every fat girl, I adore Beth Ditto. Putting aside her FIERCENESS, however, the album is really strong, and I'm bouncing along in my chair at work. Somewhat ironically, this may become my new workout album...
What do you think happens to you after you die?
Hopefully your family and friends remember you fondly, and honour your memory. Other than that, nothing. And I'm fine with that.
Loathing:
- Mostly the usuals - neck pain, sleeplessness, etc.
- The impossibility of getting work done - everyday I start out with a "to do" list, and 9 days out of 10 it gets completely derailed by other, generally urgent but fairly trivial, things. The logistics of getting work done takes so long - for every client meeting, there is weeks of organisational build up, none of which feels much like legal work.
- My biological clock, which has become more like a biological timpani drum, which is telling me all the time - have kids, now, and lots of them, quick!
- I've decided that New Housemate is a stoner. This has been somewhat confirmed by someone else. I just hope she isn't smoking in the house - I have no issue with pot, and I think it should be decriminalised, but until it is, as a lawyer, I don't want it in my house! Not sure whether I should raise the issue or not. It certainly won't help what is already a fairly strained relationship.
- Music. I went through a bit of an 'off' phase with music, but now I'm right back into it. Sounds strange, I know, but for a while I couldn't find anything I was that excited about. Regina, Florence and Bon Iver have changed all that for me in the last few weeks.
- The trip I thought I was going to have to take this week got re-scheduled. This will make the next few weeks fairly hellish, but means I get all of this week in G-town, and I can focus on exercising and cooking healthy. I need to do this in order to make up for the amount that I've been drinking lately!
- All the boys from the office are away this week, which is making things very quiet and work is getting done. Although I do miss having AC around to make me laugh / listen to me whine. Good thing BC is coming up this weekend!
- Clean sheets, crispy M&Ms, trailers for movies I'll probably never get around to seeing.
My poor, poor friend. She's just kicked her housemate out for some seriously unacceptable behaviour, which would have caused her to lose her lease if she hadn't. The kicker is that they work together, and he's selling a very different story to her entire workplace. Because he's 'one of the boys' most of them are siding with him, and she's very much out in the cold. I'm feeling a little better about both my living situation and my working situation at the moment...
I've woken up with a hacking cough, which is really not a good sign vis a vis swine flu. We get the co-worker's test results back tomorrow, so I'm hopeful that our office has escaped. If we're quarantined, I won't be able to go to The City, and although avoiding the 10 hour round trip might be nice, I've gotten myself excited about seeing friends and family for the first time in quite a while.
- Warm chorizo salad: unfortunately, I couldn't locate chorizo sausages (only pre-sliced), so I went for chipolatas instead. Made with boiled potatoes, blanched green peas, olives and roasted cherry tomatoes, and topped with a lemon mayo. So good! I'll make this again in summer, when you don't feel like something hot but also can't face another boring salad.
- Seared chicken with mushrooms and red wine: this was soooo tasty, because the mushrooms really picked up the red wine and stock. It was also super easy. The only thing I would do differently is either use a smaller pan (the liquid wasn't quite high enough to cook the chicken through so I had to do some impromptu slicing and squishing) or cut up the chicken thighs a bit smaller to start with. Served with steamed broc and quick roasted potatoes with herbs and garlic (using the boiled potato from the night before).
- Lemon risotto with garlic scallops: I love scallops, but I find they are hard to use if you don't want to eat pasta. I've made risotto before, but this was a new recipe, and the first time I had made it perfectly. I didn't overcook it, and I didn't add too much cheese. I think I might have overcooked the scallops, but it is possible that they weren't quite so tender as I would have liked because they'd been in the freezer a bit too long.
My kitchen has been occupied! To be more precise, NH and her pal (her third pal to stay for the weekend in three weeks) are in there cooking dinner. Which would be fine, if NH had her own frypan, bowls, saucepans, tongs etc. BUT NO. And of course she hasn't washed any of it up yet.
Not much to report today. I'm still terribly tired, despite having half decent sleep again last night. I don't understand what's going on... I'm hoping it is just a side effect of this horrible PMS I'm having, but who knows. I'm trying to remember how much red meat I've eaten recently... I might get my Dad to check my iron levels when I'm in The City.
Speaking of which, I'm meant to be going to The City on Monday. Hurrah in some ways, but yawn in others. I'm driving down because I can't face a week in The City without my car, and also because I really don't want to have to get on a plane, with all the hassle that entails.
The only potential flaw in the plan might be that we're still waiting to hear whether one of the guys in our office has The Swine Flu, and won't find out until Monday. If he comes back positive, my trip will be off and we'll all be working from home for a week or two. Which has its positives, but would be highly inconvenient. I'd certainly have to invest in a decent office chair for home!
I had a first treatment of IPL yesterday. I was surprised at how quick and painless it was. I've got to go back in a month, and they said it normally takes about 4 treatments to remove the hair permanently. I'm hoping it works, and hasn't already caused me to develop some form of cancer. That's a cheery thought to start the day with!
