As the title indicates, I am suffering from some serious focus problems at the moment. It can't be that I need a holiday, cos I just had a week. It isn't that I don't have anything to do, cos I have heaps. It isn't that I'm unmotivated, because I find a lot of this work interesting. I'm just BLAH.
What do I do to get out of this funk?
Went to aquarobics last night. Tried being friendly to people. They weren't particularly friendly back. Country towns suck sometimes. My legs hurt today though, which is both a good (yay, we were worked hard) and bad (you haven't done much with us in a while) sign. Ate too much for dinner, and then had to lie on the couch holding my belly. Oof.
Sort of looking for to getting a housemate. Will be nice to have someone to talk to when there's nothing on telly. Which is always. Still, does mean I have to stop doing the morning bedroom-to-bathroom stagger nekkid. Time to get some PJs, methinks.
Turns out that doing aquarobics with "gators" (the funny green ankle floaties) on is much harder than doing a class wearing a floatation belt. But at least I know that I did some actual exercise. I suspect the classes won't make too much difference to my legs overall, because it is mostly toning stuff, and there is too much *ahem* padding on my legs to see the muscles that lie deep underneath, but I'm sure that on balance it is good for me.
During lunchtime I'm going to skip down to the sports shop and purchase some goggles, a pool buoy and maybe some flippers for lap swimming. Tonight I'm just going to do what I did last time - 20 laps, alternating 3 laps breastroke and 1 lap overarm - but then I think I might start branching out. Doing laps after work appears to me because it is only 30 mins (God I'm lazy) but also because it is stinking hot in G-town this week, and getting into the pool is so refreshing. Will definitely need the goggles though - last time my eyes were so chloriney after getting out of the pool that I almost had an accident driving home!
I'm a bit obsessed with the shape and colo(u)r blog at the moment because a lot of the art on there makes me feel gleeful. For example, how cool is this dude? I like most of the art that Florentijn Hofman produces, which are documented on his website but my favourites have to be the washed up pianos and the giant duck. While the project involving the nuclear power station is not as whimsical or joyful, there is something very beautiful about taking an object with industrial, and I would suggest scary, connotations, and turning it into part of a theme park.
I forgot to blog about the wonders of aquarobics! I'll admit I was an aquarobics sceptic, mainly because I thought 'how hard can a class that mostly overweight old women do be?'. Boy was I wrong.
Well okay it wasn't hard, but it was pretty good exercise. It really works your legs and you get out feeling all stretchy and slightly more toned. It is also good because it isn't really "puffy" exercise, and while I generally want exercise to make me sweat etc so that I know I'm making a difference, aquarobics is perfect for the anti-exercise mode that is Mondays.
Last time I went I wore the floatation belt, but it kept sliding upwards and pushing my sizeable boobs under my chin. I don't think they've ever been that high up! Tonight I'm going to try the ones that go around your ankle. Apparently they give greater resistance, so they will make it harder and possibly result in more leg cramps (to which I am particularly prone) but at least my girls will not be in danger of joining the space program.
On Thursday night, G-town's water complex, which is so far one of my favourite things about the place, also has water yoga classes. How does one do downward dog with one's head under water? The mind boggles. Hello nose peg.
