Still no work email. Hurumph. It is making very unproductive, and sort of panicky because I have no idea what explosions could be in there. Normally I wouldn't fret so much, but I have two days of client meetings next week out on country and there is heaps to organise. Many potential disasters are sitting in my inbox, unable to be accessed. Waaah.
Didn't sleep enough last night. Again. I was so tired all yesterday, and I 'challenged' at pump last night (well, okay, only on biceps and squats, although my push ups are actually starting to resemble push ups, well okay girl push ups) so when I got home I was so tired, and by 9.30pm was in bed ready for some sleepin. And none came until about 2am. Yeeesh.
I'm getting a manageable amount of sleep every night - about 4 to 5 hours - but it is starting to build up. As are the particularly unattractive bags under my eyes.
9.21am and OfficeMate has just opened his first can of Diet Coke. Does anyone else find that gross?
Hah! Victory! Turns out they have unblocked gmail, so have signed up specifically so that I have email contact over the next few days. The Labor party's campaign against hoons lives!
Meanwhile, I have been disappointed in every Coldplay album released since Parachutes, simply because Parachutes was bloody amazing, and all the others have been downhill since then. However, I will admit that the title track from Viva La Vida is really growing on me... The album artwork is pretty great too.
So my work emails are down. Apparently for several days. And of course they blocked hotmail and yahoo etc etc at work. Gaaah! Ignoring the fact that I have to get a whole pile of work done, and that will be very tricky without email, I am doing these posters for an election campaign for someone in The City and am now unable to email them! Grrrrrr.
Also, now I'm bored. Technically there is a whole bunch of stuff I could be doing without using my email, but not being able to use my email is like a psychological block. I feel stuuuuck. There is so much crazyness going on at work right now, that I can't even bring myself to put it into words. Plus I miss Dude - his desk is all empty and his tea cup is just sitting there. People were clearly upset by his leaving at today's staff meeting... it seems unlikely, but maybe it will actually bring about some change.
Not a whole lot to report... the weekend was fun. BodyBalance and then lunch with a friend on Saturday, and then shopping for new undies (huzzah!) and new workout trackies. On Saturday night I went to MotherHen's house and met her whole, crazy, giant family who are hilarious and fabulous. Played pictionary and ate the choccie cake I made... with 70% cocoa organic chocolate. Ahhh-mazing! It was a good night actually although it did make me miss my friends and family a bit.
Sunday I spent the whole morning in bed watching the BBC's adaptation of Daniel Deronda, then went for a lovely walk on the deserted beach where I watched this hawk coasting on the thermal whatsits for like 5 minutes without flapping his wings. Then went home, got back into bed to watch more DVDs and work on the posters for a while, and then made orange and poppy seed biscuits for today's staff meeting, which went down a treat. My housemate was hilariously hungover and spent the whole day on the couch eating Maccas and chocolate cupcakes (made with leftover mixture from choc cake). We did, however, move the couch which her parents brought up into the loungeroom and the futon bed into the spare room. So we are officially open for visitors!
No pesto making (too lazy to do anything which would involve having to wash the food processor, especially after the amount of effort involved in the chocolate cake) and no gardening (lazy triumphs again). The weeds are reaching crisis point; they have taken over the lawn, but I just can't be bothered. This weekend for sure. *cough cough*
Not sure why it is a public holiday on Monday - maybe something to do with the Queen's fake birthday? who knows - but I plan on taking advantage of it. The housemate has friends coming to visit, which is a bit of a bummer because I wanted to do some deeply gross house mooching / wear my daggy track pants, but in some ways it is good because it will give me the house to myself during the day at least.
Anyway, the very boring but very delicious plans are as follows:
- Gardening - the lawn needs weeding, as do the garden beds. I also need to prune the roses, although God knows how. I might just hack at it on a jaunty angle and see what happens. I also need to address my caterpiller issue, which brings me to my next point...
- Visit Bunnings: get caterpiller killer (I expect it to be called 'katerpiller killer' such is the marketing genius of such products), sticky hooks for backs of bedroom and bathroom doors, maybe some alyssum for planting about the place. My fern George appears to be very unwell so I am going to cut off a leaf and take it to the garden people and ask what I should do, googling having been unsuccessful as a means of diagnosis thus far.
- Grocery shopping: I am going to do the proper country thing and get fruit n vegies from the fruit n vegie shop, meat from the local butcher, and only non-perishables from Woolies. Vive le supporting local business!
- Go to BodyBalance on Saturday, and do washing in the laundromat across the road at the same time (have been squirreling away gold coins all week). Turns out that I have managed to score a secondhand washing machine after all, but am waiting for MotherHen's Hubby to return next week to assist with transport and installation.
- Commence putting all my music onto iTunes... again. This is going to take FOREVAH because I have no internet and will therefore need to type in all the tracklistings by hand. I envision doing this task while in front of the telly.
- Watch Silent Witness and Spooks. Helloooo Friday night ABC. Followed up with Sunday night ABC which is the start of Jane Austen month!!! J'adore j'adore j'adore.
- Finish putting together my room: I have put together all my new furniture, sorted out my 'adult filing' (bills, bank statements etc), and now need to put everything in its proper place. HAH. This will take me hours. Also, I am one of those people who is completely unable to have a proper place for everything which isn't the floor.
- Read read read read read.
- Make chicken soup. Need to get: corn, cabbage, capsicum, mushies, carrot, onion, pearl barley. The only thing I have at the moment is the chicken.
- Continue sorting out my work emails: we have all been ordered to reduce our mailboxes to 500mb to which I reply 'impossible!' in a French accent. In case you haven't worked out, this whole post is being said in a fake french accent to make it less boring and more exotic. Anyway, I have to sort and file like hundreds of emails. Zut alors!
So this is an incredibly boring post, and the only reason for putting here what I am doing on my weekend is because I cannot find my diary. It may well be in the motel room in C-ville along with my entire toiletry bag. Merde.
So one advantage of my weekend in The City, and there are many, is that I was able to pick up my mac laptop from the computer people who fixed it. I looked at the repair report, and saw those horrifying words "No recovery possible".
As in, everything on my hard drive is gone.
I'm hoping that this isn't too disastrous - when I transferred from my old laptop to the then-new one, I transferred the info via burning stuff to DVD. So most of my documents will have survived. But I have definitely lost about 30 gigs of TV shows, some beautiful photos of Christmas and a bunch of flyers and invitations I have made for various events over the years.
Oh well, at least I've got the computer back, it was covered by warranty, and I will soon be able to revive my dreadful yet adored habit of watching DVDs in bed.
Things I Loathe:
- Co-workers who whinge and complain when they don't know how good they've got it. There are many reasons to complain about my workplace. Many. But there are other complaints which are not legitimate, and come from other people's own shortcomings.
- Staff members who join our organisation for the adventure or the travel. I feel like saying: "You're no good to our clients if you are just on your own little joyride. I'm here to work, what the fuck are you doing?"
- Being poor. Well, not actually poor, because I have a job and a house etc, but I am sick of not feeling finacially secure.
- Not being able to get my photos from my Melbourne trip because my computer is broken.
- That burning sensation you get on the soles of your feet from walking too far / long in thongs - why does it always stick around for like 2 days?
Things I Love:
- My mum: she's so cute.
- Electronic banking: how did people ever cope without it?
- My Paris snowglobe.
- Having an excuse to wear a giant floral skirt and thongs to work: it's my "roadtrip outfit" because it makes for comfy putting-feet-up-on-dashboard.
- Getting to take the Nissan Navaro ute instead of the Landcruiser for today's 5 hour drive. Using the ute we run the risk of our stuff getting rained on, but it has got so much more guts, and the Landy always sticks in first.
- Listening to Radio National while making dinner. Nerd alert!
Let's take stock:
- computer broken
- camera broken
- car license/rego expired as never received a due-to-expire notice
- phone bill due
- RAC membership due
- least cash in bank ever
But still:
- new shoes to replace the ones with holes in them
I thought lawyers were meant to be all fancy and rich? Poo.
Things I hate:
- My string of stinking bad technological luck. Yesterday, I picked up my camera after over 2 months in the shop being fixed. Last night, my computer CRASHED. Like, really crashed. I've had this computer less than 1 year. I'm sooo pissed off, not least because I am a huge supporter and defender of mac, and then shit like this happens and everyone goes on and on about how apple laptops are shit and always break down. I'm worried that they won't cover the work under warranty, because in attempting to address my issues, I removed the battery and the battery button broke. So they classified it as "obvious damage". I'm so fucked. That is $2500 down the drain, along with a heap of data and my only way of watching DVDs. Plus, I've had to put it in the shop in The City, so even if they fix it under warranty, I won't be able to pick it up until next time I'm down. Which could be a few months. Waaaaaah,
- My best friend's relationship with her boyfriend. It sucks. More than that, I hate the way I hate it. I have to learn to let go, and just accept that she is not going to do anything about it, and it isn't actually my job to fix her problems.
- People who cheat on their partners. Particularly when they do it repeatedly. Please note that item (3) is not related to item (2).
Things I love:
- Lonely Planet books. Maybe they make me a lazy traveller, but they are like my little comfort blanket telling me that if all else fails, I can look it up in my helpful little book.
- Being on annual leave. I am trying VERY hard not to stress about work, and am mostly succeeding.
- Tonight I had a conversation with a stranger at the pub. It went okay. This may well be personal growth.
- Going to my old local, and feeling like it is still my local.
- Catching up with my friends who are happy and doing well in their lives. This in turn makes me happy.
- My Bust magazine subscription. Now all we have to do is to convince Australia to start producing similar stuff.
- That I'm leaving on a jet plane! Off to Melbourne tomorrow night. I'm so psyched.
